Wow, it’s been a year since I last posted a blog post here in this site. So, I guess after a year it’s warranted? Should you really write a blog post once a year, or should it be more often? Ideally, it really depends on the type of site that you have. For this blog, though, it definitely should be posted on more than once a year.
So, how do you determine how often to post? Well, I can honestly tell you that from my experience, the more often you blog the more traffic you’ll end up getting. I am not saying that you need to post a blog post just for this reason. You need some sort of content in the blog post, and that blog post needs to be long enough and contain enough content in order to appeal to real humans. People will be reading it. So don’t just post junk in a blog post.
I really truly believe that Google and Bing are measuring how much time we spend on blog posts, and how much time is spent reading a blog post. The more engaged your visitors are the more Google is going to want to send traffic to your site. They’re able to measure a lot more data than we think, and the more they understand user behavior with our site the better. So, if someone socializes a blog post fairly quickly after it’s been posted, then there’s going to be more of a search engine or SEO benefit from that–than if someone just randomly socializes (tweets, likes, plus 1s) your post.
Include a quote from the post like this, because people like it.
Did you also notice that I included two outgoing links to trusted, authority websites? Well, that’s another thing that you need to do: include a few outgoing links. But don’t forget to include some internal links in your post, as well. So if you look, I’ve randomly included some links to other blog posts on this blog. Just because that’s apparently what the search engines, and humans, like, as well.
I know I’m rambling quite a bit here, and that’s probably the whole point. You need enough content for people to want to read this once a year blog post. But I won’t make it too long so people won’t read it. Oh, and by the way, I really think that there’s also a benefit to including a graphic and image in the post, as well. If the once a year blog post only contains text, then that’s boring, right?
So, here’s to another year of not posting a blog post on this blog. The only problem is that I don’t think I can go a year without posting!
